Bola Afolabi is an accomplished oil and gas professional. He has over thirty years of oil and gas experience. Bola is widely recognized as one of the best procurement and contracting strategists in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
Bola Afolabi’s Work Experience
Dr. Bola Afolabi worked for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as a member of Top Management, he held various leadership roles and retired meritoriously as Group General Manager, Research & Development. At a time, he was the Group General Manager, of LNG Investment Management Services, responsible for protecting Nigeria’s interest in its LNG portfolio. Before his numerous leadership roles at the NNPC, he spent over two decades with Shell International Petroleum, both in Nigeria and overseas before he voluntarily retired as Senior Adviser – Supply Chain. Dr. Afolabi is currently the Senior Procurement consultant for the Bureau of Public Procurement on the SPESSE World Bank-sponsored project. He is responsible for developing a competency framework for the Procurement Professionals in the Nigerian public service.
Bola Afolabi’s Education
Afolabi studied Transportation planning in the U.K. at the undergraduate level. He earned a Master’s degree in Marine Transportation from the State University of New York, Maritime College, USA. His doctorate was in Regional Development & Environmental Science from the University of Port Harcourt.
Bola Afolabi’s Achievements
A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), Board Member, and first Councilor representing Africa, he was elected as the institute’s Vice President. Later he became its first President of non-European extraction.
During his career, Bola Afolabi received many senior management development programs at Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, and Cranfield.
He is also a regular presenter of papers at both academic and professional forums.
Between 2007- 2012 the author was appointed Adjunct Professor of Strategic Supply Chain by the University of Fort Hare, South Africa, where he supervised postgraduate students and conducted academic research.

Besides of his numerous consultancy roles in oil and gas, strategic supply chain management, commercial leadership, arbitration, business planning, and development, Bola Afolabi teaches MBA Strategic Supply Chain at the Malaysian University of Science & Technology’s Lagos and Abuja campuses. In additionally, to offering investment advisory services, he provides cutting-edge consultancy services related to forex and capital markets.
Bola Afolabi’s Involvement in Professional and Social Development
Afolabi has always demonstrated enormous capacity when it comes to professional and social development. A large number of national and international dignitaries, including Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan were hosted by him as Captain of the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, during Nigeria’s 50th independence celebration in 2010.
